WHO:

  • There are many people working on this viewer, mainly, Linden Labs has created 99.9% of all the code in this viewer.  We have also taken code and patches from many other sources, like cool viewer, as well as ideas from Purple Second Life, Vertical Life, and, pretty much anything you can imagine.  That is the beauty of open source code, everyone helps out everyone,  and just as we have used code from other people, anyone is welcome to use ours according to the license provided.

  • Can you help? YES, and please do. We welcome any and all patches, and really have nothing against some extra help :)

WHAT:

WHERE:

  • ONLY get Emerald from THIS web site. The code is open source, which mean anyone can recompile it and put anything nasty they want in it.
  • If you do not follow this rule, you put yourself at grave risk of
    • Getting your password stolen
    • Having your IMs read
    • Giving someone access to your computer
    • YOUR VIRUS PROTECTION WILL NOT STOP THESE, because you would have installed their virus yourself.
  • We will be digitally signing our releases so you can verify that one of us created the binary you downloaded, and that it was not modified (see that section of the downloads)

HOW:

  • How do you know we aren't stealing your passwords?  Because we release the exact source we used to build this viewer with along with every release (we are required to by LAW).  ANYONE may freely browse all parts of the source code to ensure and check for anything you don't want in here.  (and if someone claims to find anything, have them give you the line number, and show it to me)
  • How did you make this?  LL released the source code to their clients open source, which means anyone can make modifications to it and distribute it so long as it is open source as well.  There is guide on the second life wiki to show you how, and no, in most cases we can not help you compile a viewer, get a regular linden source to compile, then we might talk.

  • This client is kept up to date and is based off the current linden distributed client (1.23 at the moment) --- Up Date released download section
